At least 7 people confirmed dead in Uyo Inferno
A fire incident in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital has left six children and a woman dead.
Reports say that the fire which occurred late in the night at No. 33, Ntia Street, off Ekpri Nsukara in Uyo the state capital also burnt the properties of the occupants.
Our reporter who visited the place gathered that the fire was noticed at about 2am by one of the victims a woman who came out to urinate and raised alarm.
A resident of the area told our correspondent that the police and fire fighters came to the scene hours after the incident occurred and could do nothing to stop it.
The state director of fire service, Ukpe Ndarake who confirmed the incident said that investigation is ongoing to ascertain the course of the disaster.
‘’We are investigating the cause of the incident.’’
The commander who said he saw four corpses in the wreckage expressed sympathy with the family and relations of the victims of the incident
