Napoli dashed Liverpool’s hopes of signing Gonzalo Higuain by vowing to keep him for at least five years.
The Kop were reportedly keen on the Argentina striker, 28, with Reds scouts watching him in the past few months.
But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has warned off any suitors.
He said: “He’s a champion because he plays for the pleasure of scoring — a real striker who should be respected.
“If his words are sincere, he’ll play for us for at least the next five years.
“I’m ready to extend his contract, I’m so fond of him as a man and as a player. I want him to stay at Napoli forever.”
Clubs across Europe are interested after he set a Serie A record of 36 goals in a season last year.
